Designing Objects for Fun and Pleasure
While reading this article I found it interesting to understand how simple designs are taking into consideration and turn it into something pleasurable to others. In the article Norman explains how a simple Japanese lunchbox is "small, yet fully packed." He goes on explaining that the lunchbox is a metaphor for design. For example in each section of the box contains five or six types of food having about twenty-five colors and flavors. We may not think about designing what goes inside a lunchbox, most of the people would just pack food and not consider how to make this into something fun and pleasurable to others. We see that the Japanese lunchbox is taken into consideration and designed well for others to enjoy the colorful arrangement. I do agree with Norman with the statement "Beauty, fun, and pleasure all work together to produce enjoyment, a state of positive affect." In my designs I would like to follow this idea and produce something that makes people enjoy not just because they can use it but for its beauty, fun, and pleasure.
